What a Pain in the Butt!

If you’re dealing with a pain in the butt right now, it could be from any number of things. But if you’re dealing specifically with a pain in your butt—literally—it might be piriformis syndrome. The piriformis muscle is a thick band like muscle that runs diagonally across the buttocks region. This muscle becomes inflamed from activities and lifestyle habits, such as carrying a wallet in your back pocket, sitting with your leg under your bottom, playing pickle ball or tennis, or enduring a fall or other injury to the rear.

With piriformis syndrome, even sitting on hard surfaces or taking a leisurely stroll can be a pain in the butt! This syndrome is very commonly misdiagnosed as a lower back problem, which leads to a treatment that offers no relief, since it isn’t addressing the true pain point. Chiropractors are trained to address this syndrome specifically, targeting the real source of discomfort.

Once inflamed, this muscle is difficult to heal without the assistance of passive therapies to help release the tension. Chiropractors can help you improve the situation without the use of corticoid steroids, injections, or pain pills. Ultrasound therapy and chiropractic adjustments will heal the muscle and get you back to enjoying your daily activities.
